These metrics, however, are different than what you’ll see through regular keyword research.
Here are brief explanations for each metric:
- Search Traffic – Don’t confuse this for the total number of searches each keyword gets. This actually measures how much traffic the keyword generates for your competitor as compared to all other keywords.
- Share of Voice – This metric measures the organic traffic share your competitor gets for this keyword. A higher value means they’re getting more clicks from the keyword’s monthly search volume.
- Popularity – The “Popularity” metric is based on the number of searches each keyword generates. You can use this metric to find priority keywords that will help you generate tons of traffic.
- Traffic Organic – “Traffic Organic” is a unique metric used to estimate the traffic share a website gets from a keyword. But unlike “Share of Voice,” it is a relative measure between websites that get traffic from the same keyword.
- Competition Organic – This particular metric is basically a version of the keyword difficulty rating. It’s based on the number of organic results a keyword generates on search engines.
- Impressions Paid – “Impressions Paid” is based on the number of impressions a website gets for ad clicks through a keyword. A higher rating indicates that a website is investing more in paid advertising than organic link building.
- Competition Paid – As the name suggests, “Competition Paid” rates the keyword’s level of competition in paid ad campaigns. As far as paid ads go, lower ratings mean you don’t have a lot of competitors for that keyword.
Keyword Revealer’s competitive analysis feature is capable of snagging truckloads of competitor keywords in one go.
Fortunately, there are easy ways to organize these keywords and find the ones you need.
Refining Your Competitor Keyword List
Keyword Revealer lets you sort competitor keywords by simply clicking the header for metric columns.

- Historical competitor performance – The competitive analysis report page contains your competitor’s historical performance data. You can examine their Alexa Rank, page views per user, page views per million, and reach per million over time.
- Other competitors by similarity – You can also use the competitive analysis tool to discover even more competitors to spy on. It lists down other websites that are optimized for the same keywords and attract the same visitors.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s still important to learn proper keyword research and build a strategy tailored to you.
But with competitor research, you can get keyword ideas that are guaranteed to bring traffic – be it organic or paid. And to make sure you’re getting positive results, you need to learn how to track your rankings.
Using The Rank Tracker
Tracking results is a critical aspect of SEO or anything related to digital marketing for that matter.
How else can you tell if your strategies are working?
With Keyword Revealer’s rank tracker, you can monitor your keyword rankings for all your websites in one place.
To get started, head to the “Rank Tracker” page from the main dashboard.
If this is your first time firing up the rank tracker, you’ll be taken to an empty page.
Go ahead and click ‘Add New Tracking Project’ to begin.
On the next page, give your tracking project a name and then paste the keywords you want to track.
These should be the keywords you’re currently optimizing for.

After running the analysis, Keyword Revealer will show you a list of all domains that link to Pinch of Yum.
By default, the report page will show you 10 referring domains at a time. You can either tweak this setting or check out the next pages for more referring domains.
If you need more backlinks, simply click ‘Load More.’
This will prompt Keyword Revealer to fetch 50 more backlinks in a flash.
You’ll also find metrics that summarize your competitor’s backlink profile on the report page.
“Total Backlinks,” for example, can give you an idea of how much your competitor has invested in link building.
You can run a backlink analysis on your own website and compare the numbers side-by-side with a competitor. This will allow you to assess if you’re ready to compete for the same target keywords.
Now – on to the backlinks.
Using Metrics To Evaluate Referring Domains
Keyword Revealer will help you plan which referring domains to prioritize through metrics.
From the report page alone, you can look at a handful of metrics that gauge each domain’s ranking power. This includes each domain’s Trust Flow, Alexa Rank, and number of external links from each page.
Next to these numbers, you’ll find lines of text below the “Anchor” column.
Let me explain what they’re all about.
Checking Anchor Texts
Keyword Revealer also identifies the anchor text used by each referring domain.
This pertains to the string of text that contains the actual hyperlink to the website you’re analyzing.
In the example above, you’ll notice that four of the backlinks shown have “Pinch of Yum” as the anchor text. Another backlink, on the other hand, uses the anchor text “Lindsay @ Pinch of Yum.”
These are also referred to as “branded anchor texts,” which are naturally created and are useful for building brand recognition.
Looking at your competitor’s backlink anchor texts will tell you a lot about their link building strategy.
If they used branded anchor texts, that means they’re focusing on building brand recognition. It’s also likely that those backlinks are naturally acquired, which isn’t surprising for popular websites.
If they’re getting keyword-optimized anchor texts, those backlinks are most likely intentionally built. That means your competitor has invested in link building campaigns to boost the rankings of specific pages.
Of course, there are other types of anchor texts that your competitors may be using:
- Naked link anchor texts – These are anchor texts that use the full URL of the page being linked.
- Generic anchor texts – Links with generic anchor texts like “click here” and “read this” can help increase click-throughs.
- Combination anchor texts – There are also websites that combine their brand name and target keyword in backlink anchor texts.
Whatever your competitors are doing, their high rankings indicate they’re doing something right.
That’s why it’s important to look at what they’ve been up to lately.

Just remember that you’ll need to enter the domain address again when switching between modes.

Finally, you can switch to the ‘Lost Links’ tab to find referring domains that recently removed links.
Looking at lost links is useful for two reasons.
One, it can help you connect with websites that used to link to your competitor. If the link’s just broken, you can tell them about it and point them to your content instead.
And two, it can help you reclaim broken or deleted links that point to your website.
Just be sure to handpick the referring domains you reach out to.
Look at metrics like Trust Flow and Alexa Rank to determine if it’s worth building backlinks from those referring domains.
