Genesis Framework Review – Best WordPress Theme of 2021

If you’ve noticed MasterBlogging over the years, you’ll find that I give special importance to website design.

When I was starting to grow my blog, I saw that despite epic content and tiring social media promotions, MasterBlogging was not getting the attention it deserved.

I realized that my site design was something my audience could not relate to.

I tried a lot of themes some were awesomely feature-rich while they made my blog to load forever and others were sleek but lacked features that would grow my traffic and give my content exposure.

Finally, I switched to Genesis, and I could feel the growth.

The themes were perfectly fast (even when I was using HostGator at the time) and still had features like different layouts among other things.

It was a perfect combo (along with resourceful articles) that has helped me scale my blog to the level it is today.

Please be noted that I no longer use Genesis on this site now (I use them on my other niche blogs, though) because my priorities have changed here.

I have already scaled this site in terms of traffic and exposure, and now I am using Thrive Themes to convert this traffic into sales.

If you are interested to know the differences between both of them, you can read my Thrive Themes vs Genesis article.

In this article, I will talk about Genesis Framework and how this can change your blog’s performance in no time.

What is Genesis Framework?

Genesis Framework or themes by StudioPress (a product of Copyblogger Media) are the undisputed kings in the premium WordPress themes section.

They offer a range of premium themes that are known for their features like rock-solid security, clean coded (thus, fast loading) and SEO optimization.

The reason for their popularity is backed by numerous authority bloggers who trust them for their blog.

Sites like QuickSprout,, etc. are powered by Genesis Framework under the hood.

When I was in my initial stage, I also leveraged themes on Genesis Framework to grow my traffic and take my blog to a position where it supported my living single-handedly.

I don’t vouch that a theme alone is responsible for growing an authority blog, but it is also true that give all conditions are same (website copy, article quality, etc.) a good blog theme can significantly boost its growth.

Who is the Genesis Framework Review for?

Before we proceed, I want to make it clear that I recommend themes on Genesis Framework only to those who want to take their blogs to the next level.

If you are a hobby blogger or don’t care if your blog converts into sales or not, this isn’t for you.

How Genesis Framework can Help You?

Genesis Framework and its child themes come in a ready-to-use package that you can use out of the box.

If you are a non-coder like me or someone who doesn’t want to invest time in these things (and instead focus on your business) then having something like Genesis Framework is a no brainer.

In this section, I will list out why you should choose Genesis Framework.

I am in no way trying to sell you out something I don’t use or trust.

You’ll only find out how this theme can help you.

#1: Inbuilt SEO Compatibility

The basics of any online business are the search engine presence and getting readers by ranking the SERPs.

Having a theme that is optimized for search engines is a must in this case.

You can always use SEO plugins like Yoast (follow this Yoast Plugin Tutorial) or All in one SEO, which will enable you to optimize your blog up to the post level.

But there a lot of sections where these plugins are simply useless.

Schema Markup

One such feature is schema markup.

This is where you need an optimized theme and Genesis Framework, and all child themes are schema markup supported.

In case you don’t know what schema is, it tells search engines what your pages mean.

It attracts readers and improves CTR by providing information (like whether your URL is about a food review, an article or event or product recommendation) directly on the search results page.

How can it benefit you?

With a schema supported theme, your results will stand out on the SERPs.

This will also increase CTR and thus more visits.

Schema markup tells your visitors what the content is about, even before clicking on your link.

Thus you only get targeted traffic that doesn’t bounce off.

Other notable SEO settings include:

Document Title Setting

Genesis allows you to set up your home description and title.

You can even decide on the placement of your description whether you want to keep it on left or right.

Robots Meta Tags

In case, you want to make your site nofollow, noindex or noarchive, this can be simply from SEO setting.

Canonical URLs

Generation of Canonical URLs is one of the essential requirements of a blog.

If you change any URL in future, then the new one should be redirected to the old one.

Canonical helps in this case.

How can it benefit you?

Having a theme that understands and supports essential SEO settings makes you independent of a plugin.

You can no doubt use Yoast or All in one SEO along with the Genesis Framework, but you don’t have to be dependent on them.

#2: Fast Loading Time:

Genesis themes are cleanly coded.

They have all the features you need to turbocharge your website but doesn’t onboard any overwhelming features that would mean a slow, laggy site.

The main demerit of the fancy, modern themes (read ThemeForest) have is they make them super bloaty just by adding features to woo the buyers.

50 layouts, 70 types of button designs and 43 ways to have your menu are all gimmicks to sell you something that would increase your load times like hell.

Makers of Genesis Framework know this fact for sure that loading time is crucial for your rankings and so designed it to load fast without the need of external plugins.

Here is a test I did on my fellow blogger and one of the top WordPress niche blog owner Devesh Sharma’s blog, and the results of this Genesis powered site is amazing.

How can it benefit you?

According to a research, 47% of the readers expect a site to load within 2 seconds and a delay of 3 seconds or more can cause 40% of your readers to leave your site.

It is needless to say that lost traffic is lost money.

Since, loading time of a site is also a ranking factor, having a theme that reduces your blog load time is helpful.

#3: Minimal Coding Requirement:

Like I said, not all know coding (it isn’t necessary either) and so Genesis Framework comes with easily customizable settings so that you don’t need to touch the code section at all.

The child themes also come in a great variety, so it fits your demands no matter you want an e-commerce website, a writer website, a theme for your food blog or a magazine theme for fashion and news blog.

How can this benefit you?

Having a theme that supports front-end customizations like changing link color, changing home page layouts, adding a different sidebar for a separate page is helpful when you don’t want to dirty your hands with coding.

With Genesis, they also offer a range of child themes to choose one that matches your blog’s need.

#4: Nicely supported after sales approach:

Genesis developers over at Studiopress ensure to keep it updated with the latest developments and keep it compatible with the latest version of WordPress.

So that keeps your worry away from compatibility when you want to download the latest version of Genesis.

Support from Genesis is easy and multi-optional.

You can get a support ticket with StudioPress, or you can open a thread in the support forums and of course help from web designers are available.

There are some great Genesis guides available which are developed by Genesis developers for working with the Genesis Framework.

Even Google search can help you with various tutorial programs for free.

We have a massive community support of Genesis users (and perhaps the largest).

That means if you are using Genesis, you are with the most committed and proactive team of support for your technical doubts and worries.

How can this benefit you?

I have been with numerous theme shops whose support forums decay with unanswered queries.

Believe me, it sucks.

With premium support, you rest assured that if something is broken, the people over at Studiopress have your back covered.

#5: You won’t lose your custom settings after every update:

Genesis themes are known to send frequent updates.

These aren’t a nuisance but a blessing that makes your site more secure, and more updated with new SEO trends and requirements.

These updations come without hampering your customization Genesis has special child theme which gives your site a very different look.

You can just customize the child theme instead of changing the Framework as a whole.

I will explain…

…Suppose you love the way your site looks.

Now a week later you need to update your Genesis version.

You can update without having to compromise with the outlook of your site.

The child theme will remain set as it is because the customizations are stored in the child theme.

Genesis also has simple import/export feature which allows you to download all your theme’s settings along with the SEO setting you have done for the current site (using Genesis, not Yoast) as a json file.

This way you can import it to other sites using the same theme or other Genesis themes.

#6: Widget Ready Theme:

Genesis Framework comes with standard widgets inbuilt so that you don’t have to pay a designer/plugin developer to add them onto your site.

These include a matching opt-in widget to collect emails, popular posts widget and others like conversion optimized ad spaces.

Check out this popular Genesis child theme:

How can you Benefit from Genesis Framework?

With all those features discussed above, it shows why you find almost every authority blog using Genesis Framework.

You can use it to:

Increase Traffic

While it is not a proven fact that Genesis increases the site traffic, (it would be foolish to say Google favors Genesis themes) but users often report a rise in traffic after using Genesis themes.

Like I said, I used Genesis Framework (and still use it to power my other niche blogs) to increase my traffic and boost sales.

The simple reason is that people trust a site that has invested in its design and has a professional look over someone that has a cheap or crappy looking free theme.

Don’t just take my words, see what Harsh Agarwal, India’s leading problogger (of ShoutMeLoud fame) has to say about his experience using Genesis Framework.

Get secured themes to power your website

As discussed above, Genesis themes are designed by industry professionals.

They are the industry standards for secured themes.

Often un-updated and free themes are the cause for 29% of the site hacks.

So, it is crucial you have your back supported by someone who is known for this.

Darren Rowse, the owner of, trusts his site’s security with Genesis themes.

Increase conversions

When you have a clean theme that is also flexible to enable you various customized widgets you can surely funnel more leads and sales.

Genesis Framework has custom landing pages to sell your products, custom sidebars to add a different sidebar for a different post/page and much more to get that customized look to convert sales.

Any Shortcomings: Cons of Genesis Framework:

Genesis Framework has no shortcomings as far as I can see.

But if you want something that is flashy, has tons of codes and gives you the option to choose from numerous layouts that actually disrupt your site hierarchy, then Genesis might not be for you.

Also, if you want to have an entirely different child theme or a third party Genesis child theme, you have to pay an extra amount for that.

This amount usually not more than $100 and is way less than most custom designed themes done by hiring designers.

Alternatives to Genesis Framework

  • Thrive Themes: Awesomely conversion-optimised, but they do lack in design options. Most of their themes look basic.
  • MyThemeShop: These are beautiful and feature rich themes.

I guess this review proves that why Genesis Framework is the most popular among all the themes in WordPress.

I personally love its code quality and flexibility.

WordPress with Genesis design Framework has revolutionized the ease and potential of what a website or blog can do or can be done with.

There are a multitude of reasons to switch to Genesis Framework which can benefit you, even if you are not a web designer.

With all conviction, Genesis makes your WordPress site way better.

Go check out Genesis Framework and give your blog a boost.

Bonus Section:

Still with me?

Well, I now assume you want to get your hands over the Genesis Framework, and this is a good thing.

As a loyal reader, I would like to see you grow (and perhaps save you some bucks) so I have decided to give you News Pro theme, which is a widely popular Genesis child theme as a bonus gift.

All you have to do is buy the Genesis Framework from this link or any link in this post.

Once done, email me to get your bonus.

Summary: Genesis framework is THE WordPress theme I use on all my sites needing more traffic and exposure. The feature-rich, cleanly coded and fast loading nature of this theme makes it a favorite amongst top bloggers like Neil Patel and Darren Rowse.

It’s good to know about why we need the Genesis Framework. I was actually wondering what it’s all about when I first ported to WordPress. Though I just installed mine few days back and I really love it features. Thanks so much for sharing and do have a nice weekend.

    Hello Ankit,
I am a newbie blogger. I have started my self hosted WP blog recently. These days i am looking for buying pro themes. I used to search which framework is better? Thesis or Genesis. I don’t know anything about coding. I want to ask you is genesis framework is easy to manage without any technical skill? Or what skills i have needed to run my blog if i go through Genesis Framework?

    1. Ankit Singla says:

      Hi Piyush,

Thesis is only for those who knows coding stuff and seriously it’s very hard to manage.
Genesis is easy to handle and you can customize it according to your wish. Many great Genesis tutorials are available on different sites but it’s hard to find tutorials for Thesis.

For me, Genesis is best framework for WordPress users.

Good luck with your new blog and let me know which framework will you choose.

  3. Soumyakanti Ray says:

    Again a great share, Ankit.

I agree with you that Genesis is the most reliable and flexible Framework. Genesis Framework is really very easy to handle. We can easily customize it without having much knowledge in CSS. The best part of it is that it has inbuilt SEO features which better optimize our WordPress blog.

Even a new blogger can optimize his blog by installing Genesis theme in his blog.

I am using Genesis since 2 months and I am very happy with it.

    Best Regards!
    Soumyakanti Ray

    1. Ankit Singla says:

      That’s true Soumyakanti.

Genesis themes are very easy to customize. SEO feature is the biggest selling point of this framework.

This is the reason why bloggers opt for this framework as compare to other frameworks like Thesis.

Glad to know that you are also using Genesis. Good luck for your blog.

  4. One more awesome thing I would like to add to this post is that Genesis is the only framework which supports fragment caching available in W3 Total Cache pro. This means that Genesis users have the option of getting a more faster website. One more thing which is really good in Genesis is the typography. I love it for it’s clean, fast layouts and good typography!
A good post Ankit, keep writing!

    1. Ankit Singla says:

I was seriously not aware with this great feature of Genesis.

Thanks Aditya for your value adding comment.

    Hi Ankit,

Nice Review 🙂 Genesis is my all time favourite theme framework for WordPress. I’m using Genesis themes on my blogs since 1 year. We got a large collection of themes powered by Genesis.
Genesis themes are easy to customize and it will help us to boost up the site speed.

    1. Ankit Singla says:

      Hi Abid,

I am glad to know that you are a happy genesis theme user.

I am also a great fan of genesis themes and using them on all of my blogs.

You are right about the blog loading speed. By using genesis theme, now my blog load faster and also it improved my search engine rankings.

Right now I’m using Custom designed theme on my blog BloggerTipsTricks but would like to know from you which studiopress theme you like the most and why?

I’m looking for a great Genesis theme for my another blog and your suggestion will be appreciated.

Thank you so much for your comment.

      Best Regards!

  6. Hi Ankit

First of all, I would like to say a big thanks for sharing this amazing review for Genesis frameworks theme for WordPress blogs.

Well I would like to share my personal experience, when I was new to blogging I used many free theme of WordPress but those theme are not that which I actually want. I mean I never got all my requirements in a single theme.

As I become older on Blog-o-sphere then I saw a WordPress blog which was using Genesis theme and At that time, I was amazed because I found everything which I want in that theme. I really like the designs of these Genesis themes even you can see the cuteness of my blog also. 😀

Genesis themes are more SEO friendly and user friendly too. Google and your readers will love your blog’s look and will also love to visit on your blog again and again. One thing which mostly attracts me in these Genesis themes is that their fonts design ( Including font and it’s size ) are just awesome.

Font design is also a great reason for using Genesis theme on my blog because In free theme, the design or the size of fonts in the posts are just unusual which I don’t like. As I know to build a good personality and identity of your blog on the BLOG-O-SPHERE, your blog should look just awesome which can be done ONLY & ONLY by Genesis themes.

    Thanks once again Ankit Bro.

    Happy Blogging 😀

  7. Siddharth Sharma says:

    Hey Ankit Bro,

Thanks for Telling me about the main use and complete biography of Genesis framework. I can remember on day you told me about to use it so, today my blog is running on genesis framework.

    Thanks 🙂

  8. supreeth bharadwaj says:

    hey ankit
well thats right i recently bought genesis, and i have applied a child theme
as i am new to wordpress is it good to use a child theme or is there any flaws in it too? anyway thanks , but i wanted to ask you any changes in 2.1.2 ?
i improved my ranking a lot!

  9. I struggled to convince myself to purchase Genesis and regret every day I wasted not doing it. It simplified things so much for me and I should have pulled the trigger a lot sooner, every thing is so much cleaner and easier to set up as an amateur.

  10. Sangram Barge says:

    Hi Ankit,
You have solved all my doubts with this amazing post. I am completely new to wordpress and I wanted to know which themes I should use on my site. Your post on genesis framework have certainly helped me and now I know what I should use. Thanks 🙂 a lot !

  11. Hi Ankit,

Do you use Genesis for everything? I have a habit of mixing things up and using different themes for different sites but if this is as customizable as you say then maybe I should give it a shot.

$60 is very affordable, too. Would like to hear your thoughts?

  12. Hi Ankit,

You’ve presented a beneficial post for the bloggers which would nudge them to move their blog to Genesis Framework.

Recently, I’ve shifted my blog to the same with your good support and many thanks for it. As you specified, it has user-friendly features with inbuilt SEO. I got traffic improvement after migrating my theme to Genesis as few of my blog posts are holding good rank.

It is worthy to buy this theme and it loads fast as you said. Moreover, this design is perfect for mobile devices. I suggest every blogger to use Genesis to reap its benefits.

Thanks for writing this detailed review of Genesis Framework bro, keep reviewing the worthy blogging stuffs.

  13. Liz McGee says:

    Hey Ankit,
I use Genesis and have for a long time. I actually prefer it because it’s so well coded and optimized. But it’s also supported. With all the internet and web changes that happen almost on a daily basis our blogs need to be able to keep up so support is important. I’ve had blog themes that weren’t supported and it can get to be a problem after a while if they’re not.

The other thing is that the child themes are affordable. The Genesis framework is about $60 but you can get the child themes for as little as about $18. All of it is less than $100 when you’re done. For a blog that has all the options you mention above that makes it totally worth it. 🙂

    1. Ankit Singla says:

      Hi Liz,

I appreciate your thought. I also prefer using themes which comes with update supports. SEO is changing very frequently and to stay in this competitive internet world, we have to stay updated with our content, marketing strategies and even themes too.

I love this feature of Genesis. They provide free updates and it’s easy. No worry about latest SEO changes. Studiopress always comes with their latest SEO changes supportive themes. Even a newbie can do well by just using Genesis themes.

Apart from the features Gensis themes provides, their price attracts me a lot. They are so affordable which I think is penny investment for any serious blogger / internet marketer.

      Thanks for your comment.
      – Ankit

  14. Awesome Post
I already read 100’s of articles related to Genesis Framework but this one is different from the rest.
Genesis always the No.1 choice for bloggers and that too using WordPress has their blogging platform.
    Keep your good work
    Have a Nice Day

    1. Ankit Singla says:

      Hi Perambur,

  15. Aditya Singh says:

    Hi Ankit,
Awesome article, as you have mention lot of benefit of genesis theme. Yes you are right genesis is a good theme recommend by many expert bloggers.

As genesis has the inbuilt SEO and the loading time is also good of genesis. But my favorite theme is thesis as the design of the theme is awesome and the functions are inbuilt in that. Thesis is bit complicated but it is nice theme.

Thanks for sharing the article. 🙂

    1. Ankit Singla says:

      Hi Aditya,

I have never tried Thesis theme before but I heard about it too many times.

May be in future I would test it on my other blogs but for now I love Genesis themes the most. You can see, all of my blogs are running on Genesis themes only and I also recommend to use it.

Would you like to share your personal experience of using Thesis theme and what special features you found in it?

      Thanks for your valuable comment.
      – Ankit

      1. Aditya Singh says:

        Hi Ankit,

I have used the thesis theme in my blog, the thesis theme is fast and SEO friendly and what i like most is the the function that we used to code in genesis we don’t have to do it in thesis.

Theme is easy to edit if you know how to use it, even the color option is good , more fonts are there. All these things make the thesis better then the genesis.

I am not saying the genesis is bad. I am saying thesis is better than genesis THIS IS MY OPINION.

  16. Rezaul Karim Arif says:

The post is very helpful 🙂 Thanks.. Can u please tell me what social sharing button plugin your are using .. I want to use it on my site.

  18. Alex Periera says:

You are rock star and a life saver! Genesis seems to be some thing, I was frantically searching for. I had my word-press website done by a designer, now whenever I want to customize it or even change it a bit, I have to grapple with the complicated php code. Just few days back, I wanted to add a new blog in my blog page and despite my best efforts I could not find the way how to add my new content on to the blog page. I hope with Genesis, all my customization issues are solved. BTW, do they give us this framework on trial?

  19. Surendra Soni says:

    Hello Ankit,

Nicely written article bro. As per my opinion Genesis framework is the most simple with highly SEO optimized framework. Like you also don’t have to install any seo plugin , have simple design, easy to customize, lighting fast loading time and many more.

I am using genesis from my own site and also recommend my clients to you it for their projects.

Now I am in process of building my own Customized Genesis Theme Selling Site. 🙂

Thanks for sharing This awesome article .

  20. Hello Ankit,

You are so correct that when you are are a newbie and trying to setup a new blog it can be challenging, In regards to SEO, you are so correct that some of the wordpress plugins are not compatible and conflict with each other. I have had this problem many times. Great layout of the SEO capabilities of Genesis.

I used the Prose theme before and loved it. It definitely loaded fast which is very important to anyone who has a blog or website. I was not familiar with any type of coding and did not need to be with Genesis. It was very user friendly and I loved that fact.

You have given some great points here I was not aware of with the Genesis framework. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Ankit Singla says:

      Hi Nate,

I always see newbies face many problems in setting up their blog. Specially they always stay confused which theme they should use on their blog. But I must say, Genesis is the best theme which I recommend my audience to use. Even a newbie can easily understand its functionality and customizing the Genesis (Studiopress themes) is super easy.

Loading speed is one of the best features of Genesis themes and all of my sites are running on Genesis framework only. I have never tried the Prose theme but would like to use it on my next blog as per your recommendation.

BTW nate, Studiopress just released a new Genesis theme named Whitespace Pro. Have you tried it yet? I got their newsletter where they talked about this theme and it’s sound very impressive. What you think about addition of this new theme in studiopress themes gallery?

      Thanks for your comment!
      – Ankit

      1. Hi Ankit,

    Great review indeed!

I am too using Genesis Framework with eleven pro child theme on my blog. And my website loads in milliseconds since I switched to Genesis Framework.

Thanks for sharing this amazing review!

  30. Hi

I am starting a blog and new to ALL of this. I have fallen in love with a wordpress theme from Envato, which does not need Genesis to run. From what I am reading, it seems I really should be getting Genesis, and then finding a workable child theme. Is there any way to customize a child theme enough to sort of look like the other word press theme I like? I am at a crossroads on this one… Thank you!

  31. Thanks for the great article.
    I have some questions:
    1. I want to find one that can help Genesis plugin automatically retrieves articles from RSS is not?
    2. How quickly can custom homepage by: drag and drop?
    Thank you very much

  32. Vishal Jain says:

    Hi Ankit,
Though I am not new to blogging, but I am new to Genesis framework :). Earlier I though Genesis is just a theme like othere wordpress themes, but I was confused. So I started exploring Genesis. 33. Hi Ankit,
    excellent review.

I started using Genesis Framework since the beginning of my blogging journey, more than 5 years ago.
I like the flexibility and customization settings available.
I’ve a few different child themes, installed on my sites.

I’m a big fan of Studiopress!
    Thanks for sharing!

  34. Hey Ankit,

Thanks for the review, I am interested to buy genesis but there is no any other bonus offer :-p

  35. Hi Ankit,

It appears is using the FocusBlog theme from Thrive Themes and not Genesis.

Is there a reason you are not using Genesis anymore?

      Hi Greg,

Thrive themes are conversion optimized. That’s why I’m using it.

You can check their official site and you’ll understand why I’m using it 🙂

      1. I use Thrive’s Rise and Luxe themes. Nice themes but not as aesthetically pleasing as Genesis.

  36. Hi Ankit,
Wanted to know one thing here. I wanted to customise the theme as per some of the requirements. As far as I know, I will need the child theme for that. Wanted to know what would be the total cost for the same Do you have to pay more than the 60$? If yes, then what is the payment of 60$ for?
    Thank you,

  37. Wow nice article ankit

First of all I am daily visitor of your site I read you are all posts and tips and implement on my site and after that I really increased my website performance

I worked with Genesis on my client sites and ya after using it really decreased our site load time from 3 sec to 1sec
I also use cdn service with Genesis and decreased more to 700mm

Its very easy to work with this genesis

  38. Hi Victor,

Glad to know that you are using Genesis and loving it’s features.

Good luck for your new blog and thanks for sharing your views

  39. I was using free theme for my blog previously. But i faced many issues such as my blog was loading very slowly and also some plugins were not compatible with the theme.

I did research between Genesis and Thesis framework. Finally i made up my mind and purchased Genesis framework and digital pro child theme. Now my blog is much more faster with shared hosting. Also yes, there is rise in my blog traffic and also bounce rate is gone down.

Customization is also very easy in genesis theme.

  40. Sir,

Sorry for commenting here. I want to know which plugin you use for adding that box and post content.
